Abstract
This clinical study was performed on 87 persons 88 cases of the primary breast cancer that had been treated by surgical resection from July 1987 t the Department of Surgery, College of Medicine, Inha University. the purpose of this study was to
analyse
the clinical parameter of breast cancer.
@ES The results are follws:
@EN 1) The most prevalent age group is the 5th decade(26.6%) and ratio of male to female was 1:86.
2) Most common symptom was palpable mass in 95.4%, and axillary lymph nodes were palpabled in 19.5% of the patients at first visit.
3) 59 cases(67%) of all patients visited the hospital within 6 months from onset.
4) The primary tumor was located in the right breast in 44 cases(50%), on the left in 42 cases(48.5%), and on both sides in 1 case(1.15%). The most frequent site of tumor was upper outer quadrant in 47 cases(53.4%).
5) The most common tumor size was 2~3cm in diameter in 33 cases(37.5%), followed by less than 2cm in diameter in 24cases(27.3%), over the 3cm in diameter in 13 cases (14.8%), 3~4cm in diameter in 11 cases(12.5%), and 4~5cm in diameter in 7
cases(7.9%).
Prevalence of axillary NL metastasis was more frequent with increasing tumor size(P<0.05).
6) The most commonly used preoperative diagnostic method was fine needle aspiration biopsy.
7) The most common pathologic type was invasive ductal cancer, 72 cases(81.2%).
8) According to the T.N.M. system, the most common stage was stage II in 51 cases(57.9%), followed by stage III in 18 cases(20.5%), stage I in 17 cases(19.3%), and stage IV in 2 case(2.3%).
9) The most common operative method used was modified radical mastectomy.
10) Overall 5-year actual survival rate after surgery was 79.7%. according to the T.N.M. system, the 5 year survival rte of stage I was 100%, stage II 92^%, stage III 66.8%, stage IV 50%. according to positive axillary lymph node metastasis, the
5
year
survival rate of no was 97.8%, n1~3 92%, n>4 58.8% respectively.
